As a carer, I believe it is important for people with HD to undertake the daily tasks which they want to do and can safely do.
This can be challenging for the sometimes impatient me, who most of the time could probably complete these tasks more efficiently.
It is however rewarding when these tasks are finalised.
My most challenging part was after my friend had tested positive. She was only on antidepression medication at the time. It was her anger outbursts which were usually directed at me. I had gone with her while she was receiving the genetic counselling and testing process. Because I didnt know anything about this illness, I took the outbursts personally but never responded in the same way. I soon realised that although I was her scapegoat for her outbursts I would always be there for her no matter what and learned not to take them personally. My precious friend has recently joined the HD warriors up in heavan and Im now supporting her daughter who has complex needs and recently tested positive
