Hi Brown Eyes,

My friend Lynne was hesitant at first to tell people about the disease, but once she started showing physical symptoms, she would tell people as she was also a recovering alcoholic and didn't want people to think that she was drunk. As her illness progressed, and she was still able to verbally communicate, she would often have discussions with uber and taxi drivers telling them about her disease. Lynne felt that it was important to educate as many people as possible while she could about Huntington's Disease as most people she spoke with didn't know anything about it.

Hello @browneyes, when, who and what to tell other people about your situation is entirely up to you. Only you can decide whom to tell and how much information you share about your test results or diagnosis and you should only do this when you are ready and feel comfortable talking about it with other people. Our website has some information about Telling people about HD which you might find useful. our members might also want to share their own experiences on telling people about their test results and/or diagnosis

Hi @browneyes

I tested positive 4 years ago, and I still feel this way. It's normal.

I find I'm fine talking about it with strangers, but when it comes to telling anyone with any sort of personal connection, I panic afterwards and second guess myself! I think it comes down to self protection instinct.

I try to look at t as, the more people that know, the more awareness and support will come from my conversations.

I'm hoping with practice, it will feel less stressful!
